2019 OWEN Great Teachers Awards: Q&A with Mike

OWEN Education is an English Foreign Language School located in Chongqing, Chengdu, and Kunming, China. The school has over 5000 students and a renowned foreign staff of over 100 international teachers. Ever since 2001, OWEN Education has been providing students with a rich and diverse learning environment.


The company recently held their annual Great Teachers Awards in Chongqing. This event is held to recognize notable members of their teaching and management staff, and many of the Chinese teachers and international teachers received awards.  




Mike currently teaches with OWEN Education in Chongqing and attended the awards event. He shares about his experience teaching with OWEN Education and what the event was like.


1. Where are you from and which university did you graduate from?


Hi I'm Mike, I'm from Guernsey, CI and I graduated from the University of South Wales.


2. Why did you decide to move to China?


I wanted to move back to China because I missed living in a big city and to continue to improve my Chinese


3. How long have you lived in China?


Altogether, I've been here about 3 years.

4. What do you enjoy about living in Chongqing?


really love the night time views of the river, it's really beautiful.


5. What are some of your favorite things about being an OWEN English Teacher?


I love the fact I'm not sat a desk all day and I can have laugh with my students, it can really brighten my day!


6. What was exciting about the OWEN Great Teachers Awards had for foreign teachers?


It was really great to see our teaching staff, foreign and Chinese alike, being recognized for their hard work. Catching up with everyone and meeting our new teachers at the dinner afterwards was a lot of fun too.


7. What are you looking forward to in the coming months?


I'm looking forward to the new skills I'll learn as a mentor for new arrivals and seeing how the company continues to grow and improve.
